10 ways to Decorate with Hydrangeas
September 4, 2021

I am busy prepping my Fall table decorations and ready to host my friends for a fun-filled evening of pumpkin soup, pear and arugula salad, smoked pork chops, baked apples, and of course, some pumpkin pie and ice cream. Want to come over?

Have you started to decorate for fall yet? I know it is early. However, I just could not wait any longer. If you have been in the stores, fall is everywhere, so now is the time to get it if you want to find the good stuff.

Today, I want to share the process of creating my fall table decorations and how I plan.

I was so fortunate to collaborate with two outstanding companies to help make my table so beautiful this year. I always start with my plates, glasses, and flatware, and then I  create my color scheme. This year I chose these darling pumpkin plates from Hobby Lobby, which was the start of the process.

I then layered these small salad plates on top of a light green dinner plate. Since we were going to be outside, I went with a melamine plate.

Lastly, I chose a brown and white charger plate that was just perfect, and I knew I would use these time and again.

I chose my gold flatware to go with this theme. It adds a warm tone to the table and is perfect for my fall table decorations.

And look at these dreamy gold glasses! I mixed these in with some vintage glasses I have had for years.

The next step was my linens, and I knew the perfect linens for my fall table decorations would come from Middleton Makes. Nicky is a fantastic artist who specializes in Ice Dying.

I gave her my Pantone colors, and she hit it right on the mark.  Aren’t they just dreamy! ‎

I love the beautiful linen fabric she chose, and the quality is outstanding. I hand-painted these cute little acorns and gold-leafed the lids to tie up my napkins.

Now it was time to pull the remaining items for my fall table decorations. Of course, a fall table would just not be complete without fabulous candles.

These beautiful candles from are beyond amazing. The textured, matte gold finish is festive yet neutral, perfect for holidays or all year long.  My favorite part of these candles is the fact that they will never drip. These candles have an infinity wick controlled with the flick of a remote for a steady or flickering flame.

I chose these lovely brass candlesticks from to hold my infinity candles. They were the perfect match for my fall table decorations.

A fall table would not be complete without beautiful flowers and, of course, velveteen pumpkins. These scrunchy velveteen pumpkins came from in these two gorgeous colors: warm sand and moss green. The large pumpkin is 7,” and the smaller pumpkin is 5”.

I styled the table in a few different ways just to see what would feel right.

Typically a table does not feel right without a lovely flower arrangement. However, in this case, I loved the simplicity of the vintage urn with the pumpkins. It just looked so classy.

So my beautiful flowers will sit in this lovely chair for all of my guests to admire.

Floral arrangement

When creating a flower arrangement, think outside of the box. For example, I used a vintage leather train case for my flower vase. This piece was the perfect color, size, and shape for my fall table decorations.

I started with a beautiful blue bow to contrast with the browns and golds I used in my preserved foliage.

I used an assortment of real leaves that have been preserved, along with some blue dried hydrangeas and some nice off-white pampas grass. I love the light, and airy feel the pampas grass gives to an arrangement.

If you follow my blog, you might recognize that sweet little twine pumpkin. I have been obsessed with twine lately. It is so easy to work with, and you can make so many amazing things.

I also created another larger floral arrangement to place in the area where I am entertaining.

Fall table decorations

Lastly, I want to share one of my favorite parts of my fall table decorations with you! Of course, that would be my lighting, isn’t it amazing!

Fall table decorations

My sweet husband helped me to create these lamps over my table.

We strung a commercial-grade string of lights from the Sheshed across to my storage shed.

Commerical string lights

We then created these lampshades using wire baskets that you would typically use for planting.

I simply just turned them upside down. We used a lighting cord from Ikea to create these lights. They come in black or white, I used black.

First, you remove the light bulb from the socket on the string lights. You then insert an outlet socket adapter into the socket.

Next, trim the lighting cord to the length you want and replace the end with an extension cord replacement end.

Now you need to cut a hole in the bottom of the basket, just large enough to insert the lighting cord from Ikea. Next, you will see that you unscrew the ring on the cord, place the light into the basket and then screw the ring back onto the cord from the inside of the basket. ‎

Nicky from Mitleton Makes was kind enough to send me some extra napkins, which I tore into three-inch strips and wove the fabric through my lampshade baskets to create these darling lampshades to go with my fall table decorations.
