Effortless Ways to Decorate with Fresh Flowers for Spring
I love having fresh flowers in my home year-round. A simple bouquet can add a cheerful touch of charm and fragrance to your home. As the garden bursts into bloom, the sweet scent of wisteria drifts through the house, filling it with a delightful aroma.
Today, I’m excited to share some simple tips in this blog post to help you incorporate fresh flowers into your home decor this season. I understand that buying fresh flowers can get expensive, so we have to get creative with our floral designs
Where are the best places to buy fresh flowers at a decent price? What are the best Spring flowers to use in your home decorating? And how can you mix real flowers with faux flowers?

On my blog WM Design House, I may sometimes use affiliate links, which means a small commission is earned if you purchase via the link. Home decor with flowers
I typically like to have at least one arrangement in each room of the house. I am known for making various flower arrangements using all real flowers, a mix of faux and real flowers, dried flowers, and all artificial flowers.
It depends on the season and what is growing in the garden. The spring flowers allow you to add a pop of color to welcome the spring. So let’s take a look at how I decorated each room of my house with fresh flowers for seasonal touches.
Decorating with fresh flowers
It’s that time of the year when we are all anxious to bring a touch of spring into our homes. Here are a few great ideas to help you do just that!
Adding flowers to the kitchen
The kitchen is the heart of my home—the place where everyone naturally gathers, whether we’re cooking together or enjoying a quick bite. That’s why I love adding fresh flowers to this space, bringing in a touch of beauty and warmth.
To make styling effortless, I keep a round wooden tray on the counter year-round, holding two large white pitchers. These pitchers are my go-to vases, perfect for showcasing seasonal blooms and effortlessly refreshing the space with each new season.
For spring, I added some blush-colored hydrangeas with greenery and coral Hypericum, coral roses, and a few branches of fresh curly willow.
One of my favorite tips is to add seasonal plants in pots that will last longer than fresh-cut flowers. Try a pretty pot of white hydrangeas or some spring tulips or hyacinths.

I love to include a few vintage pieces along the way, like these old silver teapots with sweet bird nests sitting on the top. Or a large dough bowl that I have filled with potted plants for the kitchen table.
The Family Room: bright and cheery for spring

Right off our kitchen, the family room is another central gathering spot in our home, so I wanted to bring in the beauty of fresh flowers to brighten up the space. Since this room is quite large, I added two arrangements to make a statement.
The first is a stunning display of pink Stargazer lilies in a simple clear glass vase. These lilies are one of my absolute favorites—not only for their striking color but also for their incredible fragrance. They fill the room with a sweet, floral scent and last up to two weeks. At just $18 from the flower market, they’re a worthwhile investment for two weeks of fresh beauty.
The second arrangement mirrors the soft, inviting tones I used in the kitchen. A lovely mix of blush-colored hydrangeas and coral coffee bean berries perfectly ties in with the room’s coral accents. Placed atop a table, this bouquet adds a refreshing touch of spring, making the space feel warm and welcoming.
Adding flowers to the dining room

This room recently got a stylish update with some fun wallpaper, completely transforming its look. With Easter approaching, I wanted to create a beautiful tablescape, but I knew fresh flowers wouldn’t last. So, I designed a stunning centerpiece using faux florals as the base to place on my dining table.
To bring in a touch of freshness, I add small vases with real blooms, tucking them seamlessly into the arrangement. The mix is so natural and well-balanced that it’s almost impossible to tell which flowers are real and which are faux. Can you spot the difference? It’s surprisingly tricky!
The Living Room: Timeless Elegance
Moving on to the living room, this room also serves as our entryway, so I wanted a welcoming focal point that would leave a lasting first impression. To achieve this, I created an oversized floral arrangement filled with vibrant spring blooms, bringing both elegance and warmth to the space.

The arrangement is a lush combination of cherry blossoms, curly willow, chamomile, eucalyptus, and white snapdragons, offering height, texture, and a natural, organic flow.
To enhance the look, I incorporated a few yellow tulips on the coffee table and mantel, adding a touch of warmth. The cheerful yellow beautifully complements the blue-and-white decor, creating a welcoming and harmonious ambiance.
Fresh flowers in the powder room
I recently gave our powder room a bold, dark, and moody update, so I wanted to keep the decor minimal yet impactful. A simple glass vase with delicate, fragrant white flowers was all it needed to soften the space and add a refreshing contrast. I chose white freesias—their elegant blooms and sweet scent bring a light, airy touch, creating a welcoming and sophisticated atmosphere for our guests.

More decorating ideas with fresh flowers
Here are a few other ideas to use fresh flowers in your home this season.
Floral Mantel Display – Updating your fireplace mantel decor is a great way to give your home a seasonal refresh. As a natural focal point of any room, mantels are the perfect place to start spring decorating.
Springtime Wreath – Craft a DIY wreath with fresh or faux flowers, upcycled garden tools and some pretty ribbon.
Bedside Blooms – Keep a small bouquet of sweet-smelling flowers like lavender or jasmine next to your bed for a calming and fresh ambiance.
Where are the best places to buy fresh flowers?
I’m lucky to live near Los Angeles, home to one of the most incredible flower markets. This bustling marketplace spans two massive buildings with vendors offering a stunning array of wholesale blooms. You’re greeted by the intoxicating scent of fresh flowers when you step out of your car. Inside, you’ll find everything from succulents and cacti to dried, preserved, and faux flowers—along with an endless variety of fresh blooms in every color and shape imaginable.

I understand that most of you do not have access to a flower market like this, but here are a few other suggestions to help you search for Spring flowers.
1. Trader Joe’s- If you are lucky enough to have a store nearby, they have a fabulous selection of fresh-cut flowers at a great price. I love that you can get a fresh bundle of daffodils weekly for $2.99.
2. Local Grocery Store- You can gather some great flower bunches for a reasonable price here.
3. Home Depot- Most Home Depot’s carry fresh cut flowers. You can gather a large bunch of flowers for around $10.
4. Open-air markets- Many small towns host open-air markets where the growers come and sell their flowers and produce.
5. Cut from your own or a friend’s garden.
I also like to mix my fresh flowers with faux flowers occasionally. Here are a few of my favorite places to shop for faux flowers.
1. Michaels
2. Hobby Lobby
3. Housefloral.com
4. Housebyjsdonline.com
Now that we know where to buy our flowers, what kind should we look for this Spring?
What flowers bloom in the spring?
When shopping for your flowers, keep in mind the color scheme you want to use. Do you want to match your decor colors or go all out with the bright colors of spring?
Since most of my home is blue and white, I used different shades of pink and coral with just a pop of yellow in the dining and living room.
Let’s start by discussing some of the best spring flowers to decorate with. I have to admit I have not seen a flower I did not love, but spring flowers are my favorite. Their brilliant colors, shapes, and scents are just delightful. I grow some of these flowers in my garden, but since it is still in March, it is a little early for me to harvest flowers, except for the Wisteria, from my own garden. Here is a list of my favorite flowers in fresh spring colors.
- Tulips– Classic spring flowers that come in various colors and varieties. They add elegance and charm to any arrangement.
- Yellow Daffodils – These bright yellow blooms are one of the first signs of spring, bringing a cheerful burst of color after winter’s gray. I love that you can get a fresh bundle of these weekly at Trader Joe’s for $2.99.
- Hyacinths – With their dense clusters of tiny flowers and rich fragrance, hyacinths are an excellent way to add scent and beauty to spring décor.
- Peonies –A lush and fragrant flower that comes in soft pastels and vibrant shades of pink, making them a favorite for springtime arrangements.
5. Ranunculus – With their delicate, ruffled petals, ranunculus add a touch of whimsy and romance to any floral display.
6. Cherry Blossoms – These delicate pink or white blossoms are spring’s signature, often associated with renewal and fresh starts.
7. Lilacs—Lilacs are known for their intoxicating fragrance. They bloom in purple, white, or pink clusters and are a beautiful and aromatic addition to any space.
8. Wisteria – These cascading, fragrant blooms in shades of purple and blue create a dreamy, romantic ambiance indoors and outdoors.

9. Anemones – These striking flowers, with dark centers and vibrant petals, bring contrast and boldness to spring bouquets.
10. Sweet Peas – These delicate, sweet-smelling blooms are perfect for adding softness and a touch of nostalgia to floral arrangements.
11. Hydrangeas – I love starting an arrangement with these large delicate blooms. They come in a variety of colors and are quite easy to find.
Choosing the right vase
A vase will set the stage for your flowers so that you can choose wisely for the look and feel you want to accomplish in your room. Remember the size and shape of the arrangement you want to end up with. Here are several ideas of vases you can use to create gorgeous arrangements. Be sure to check out your local thrift store or an estate sale. These are great places to find vases at a reasonable price.
- Dough bowls
- Ginger jars
- Ceramic or glass vases
- Bud vases
- Pitchers
- Terra cotta vases
Other beautiful spring flower arrangements
Since this post focuses mainly on decorating with floral arrangements, I won’t go into much detail on how to make each kind of arrangement. However, if you’re looking for simple floral arranging tips, you can find step-by-step instructions in my recent blog post.
When you design your spring flower centerpieces, please look over the space where you plan to place them. Do you prefer a taller arrangement or something more low-profile? Are you aiming for a subtle, elegant touch or a bold statement piece? Remember these questions to create the perfect floral arrangement for your home. Caring for fresh flowers in your home
Lastly, there are a few tips I would like to share with you to help keep your flowers fresh in your home longer.
Expert Tips for Longer-Lasting Flowers
- Change the Water Daily – Refresh the water daily to prevent bacteria buildup and keep your flowers hydrated and vibrant.
- Keep Foliage Out of the Water – Remove any leaves that would sit below the waterline to prevent decay and bacterial contamination.
- Trim Stems at an Angle – Cut stems at a 45-degree angle before placing them in water to increase surface area for better water absorption. Re-trim every two days to keep them fresh.
- Prep Hydrangeas for Better Absorption – For hydrangeas, lightly smash the last two inches of the stem with a mallet or hammer to enhance water intake and prevent wilting.
- Use Lukewarm, Clean Water – Flowers absorb lukewarm water more effectively than cold water. Fill your vase with room-temperature water for best results.
- Add a Floral Preservative or DIY Solution – Use commercial flower food or make your own by adding a teaspoon of sugar and a few drops of lemon juice or vinegar to nourish the blooms and balance the water’s pH.
- Avoid Direct Sunlight and Heat Sources – Keep your arrangement in a cool, shaded area away from direct sunlight, heating vents, and appliances that emit heat, as these can cause flowers to wilt faster.
- Mist Delicate Petals – Spritz flowers like roses and hydrangeas with water to keep their petals hydrated, especially in dry environments.
- Refrigerate Overnight (Optional) – Extend the lifespan of your flowers by placing them in the fridge overnight, mimicking florist storage conditions.
- Remove Wilting Flowers Immediately – Dying flowers release bacteria that can shorten the lifespan of the rest of the arrangement, so remove any wilted blooms promptly.
- Avoid Overcrowding Stems – Give flowers enough space in the vase to allow proper air circulation and water absorption.
