Recipes using a boxed Angel Food Cake mix
I have to say that this is my go-to. I have made homemade angel food cakes several times, but I still prefer Betty Crockers over cake from scratch.
This angel food cake is very much like a sponge, so light and fluffy.
I have made it in several shapes; a round tube pan, a square, and a heart-shaped tube pan.
You can make this cake plain, and it looks gorgeous on the table with a few flowers from the garden.

This is a different take on the typical angel food cake.
“This sweet and creamy, easy-to-make angel food cake roll is a strawberry and cream delight!” says Ann from Ann’s Entitled Life.
Pineapple Angel Food Cake
I came across this recipe and had to try it. I love anything with pineapple, and I have to say it was a hit.
This recipe came from Carrie @eatingonadime and only takes two ingredients, an angel food cake mix and a can of crushed pineapple.
And, of course, some whipped cream for the topping. We don’t want to forget that, as whipped cream will give you the best results.
Great recipe for a boxed Angel Food Cake
- Pour the mix from the box into the mixer.
- Add room temperature water according to the box.
- Be sure to use a tube pan for the angel food cake.
- You only need to mix these two ingredients for 30 to 40 seconds. You want to have soft peaks when you lift the beaters.
- Place the mixture in the pan. No need to grease the pan.
- Place the pan in the oven on the bottom rack at the appropriate temperature on the box.
- Watch your cake carefully and try not to bang any doors or slam cupboards, as this can cause your cake to fall.
You will see the cake rise and become a very fluffy cake.
Remove from the oven and turn it upside down immediately to cool.
Once cooled, use a serrated knife to loosen the edge around the cake and the center.
And, of course, some whipped cream for the topping. We don’t want to forget that, as whip cream will give you the best results.
Homemade Angel Food Cake
And, last but not least, after all those great ideas and you still want to make an angel food cake from scratch, here is my favorite recipe.
Angel Food Cake from Scratch
Materials
- 1 3/4 Cup granulated sugar
- 1 Cup Cake Flour
- 2 Tbsp Cake Flour
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 12 egg whites- room temperature
- 1 1/2 tsp pure vanilla extract
Instructions
- Adjust the oven rack to the lower position and preheat the oven to 325°F (163°C).
- Smoothly blend the sugar in a blender until it reaches an airy, fine powder. Measure out 1 cup and set aside for step 3; keep the remaining sugar powder inside your food processor. To complete this delectable preparation, add cake flour and salt to the existing mixture before pulsing 5-10 times.
- Beat egg whites and cream in a stand mixer with the cream of tartar until foamy, then slowly add 1 cup of sugar. Whip up to soft peaks before adding a dash of vanilla or almond extract for flavor.
- To create an exquisitely fluffy angel food cake, sift the flour mixture into the egg-white mixture in 3 small portions, gently folding with a rubber spatula each time. A light touch is essential – adding too quickly will result in a dense cake. Pour and spread your batter evenly over an ungreased pan.
- Bake until a cake for approx. 37-40 minutes. Test it with a cake tester before removing it. Once the cake is finished baking, remove it from the oven and turn it upside down to cool for an hour or two. Take a serrated knife and loosen the edges to release the cake from the pan.
- Dress the cake with fresh fruit, flowers, or whatever you desire to make an impressive dessert.
- Slice the cake with a sharp serrated knife. Regular knives can easily squish the cake. Serve with whipped cream or ice cream and fresh berries or lemon curd.
