Sunday Sharing from the She Shed Volume 32

Happy Sunday, friends!

It has been an unbelievable two weeks since I last shared with you.

It started so beautifully with a visit from my sweet daughter-in-law and our one and only grandson, Callum. We swang on the swings and ate birthday cake and ice cream.

A toddler with short brown hair and a green outfit smiles while swinging in a playground swing, enjoying the day as if it were Sunday Sharing. The background includes trees, a house resembling a cozy she shed, and a clear blue sky.
A woman with glasses and a young child are smiling at a table in a restaurant. The child is holding a spoon over a bowl. They are sitting close together, and there is a wooden railing in the background.

Callum also told us he was going to be a big brother, yes… we are adding #7 to our beautiful tribe of grandchildren.

Then the week took a bad turn on Tuesday evening.

Something happened recently that I never imagined I would experience in my lifetime. Eaton Canyon, just two miles north of our home, caught on fire.

Watching the two wildfires tear through Southern California has been utterly devastating. Over 12,000 homes, schools, churches, and businesses have been destroyed, leaving countless families with nothing but the clothes on their backs.

A garage with a white door is in the foreground, adorned with hanging string lights. Behind it, a large fire is visible through silhouetted trees, casting an orange glow into the night sky.
This is right behind our garage
A large fire with intense orange flames and thick smoke billows into the night sky. The fire is visible down a residential street lined with parked cars. Utility poles and silhouetted trees are in the foreground, with a few people walking on the street.
This was the fire coming down the hill and into the neighborhoods.

For reasons I may never fully understand, our home and neighborhood were spared. But my heart aches deeply for so many friends who lost everything—their homes, their belongings, their sense of security.

How do you go from the picture on the left to the image on the right in minutes? Pure devastation. (This was one of my dear friends homes)

A charming white house with a dark gray gabled roof and vibrant red front door. It features black shutters on the left window and has a well-maintained green lawn with shrubs. The sky is partly cloudy, adding to the picturesque setting.
A devastated landscape shows the aftermath of a wildfire, with charred trees and ruins of buildings. Smoke lingers in the air against an orange-tinted sky, and debris is scattered across the ground.

The emotional weight of this tragedy has been overwhelming. I’ve felt so many conflicting emotions—gratitude for our safety, guilt for what others are enduring, and an incredible sadness that has been hard to shake. Returning to a sense of normalcy feels impossible when so many are still living in chaos.

This past week has been a mix of tears, mourning alongside friends, and coming together to offer whatever help we can—providing essentials like clothing, food, and other necessities. It’s in moments like these that the true meaning of community, friendship, and family shines through.

I will forever be grateful to all of our amazing firefighters, including our son in law Captain Meichtry, who continues to work diligently on these fires. They are tired and have worked so many hours.
