A Southern California Christmas

Living in Southern California means we can enjoy our outdoor spaces all year long. So today, I’m taking you outside to share how I styled my Pomegranate Christmas Decor in a few of my favorite spots — our front porch, my She Shed, and a few simple touches on the back porch.

And yes… 99% of the pomegranates you’ll see are real and handpicked!!
I know — there are so many of them (over 200 to be exact). You may even be wondering where on earth they all came from!? I’m incredibly fortunate to have a dear friend with over 60 pomegranate trees who generously allows me to pick until my heart’s content!

In our home, we love pomegranates in all shapes, sizes, and every form — we love eating them in salads, mixing them into delicious pomegranate cosmopolitans, and finding creative ways to enjoy them throughout the season. Their rich color, beautiful texture, and natural charm make pomegranates the perfect accent for an elegant outdoor Christmas.

A Bit of History: Why I Love Decorating with Pomegranates

Pomegranates have long been a symbol of abundance, blessing, and celebration — all beautiful symbols and sentiments for the holiday season. Their natural ruby-red color adds depth and richness to Christmas greens while pairing effortlessly with everything from pine boughs and eucalyptus to dried hydrangeas and seed pods.

Pomegranates also carry a wonderful sense of history and symbolism. This sacred fruit appears throughout Scripture with numerous biblical references, often used as ornamentation in sacred spaces. One of my favorite references is:

Song of Solomon 4:3 (NIV)
“Your temples behind your veil are like the halves of a pomegranate.”
Theme: Beauty, Richness and Elegance — fits a natural holiday aesthetic.

A close-up of bright red pomegranates nestled among green leaves and pine needles, with Pomegranate Christmas decor shining softly in the blurred background, featuring festive lights and a cozy house.
A plethora of pomegrants sitting in a wood chicken nesting box with christms greenery in the garden.

I love this verse as it shows how pomegranates were used to decorate in ancient biblical times. They are a reminder that beauty and design have always played a role in creating sacred spaces. In many ways, decorating with pomegranates feels like a sweet connection between past and present. This is especially true during The Christmas Season as we are surround by family and friends and the the traditions we carry forward.

Whether I’m tucking them into a wreath, layering them into a garland, or gathering them in a simple bowl, pomegranates add a sense of warmth and delicious timeless elegance that feels perfect for the season.

The She Shed: My Cozy Garden Hideaway Dressed for Christmas

The She Shed is one of my favorite places to decorate with pomegranate Christmas decor and is truly my sacred space. Surrounded by evergreens and cozy lights, it transforms into the sweetest little destination during the holidays.

This year, I draped a garland across the roofline, weaving it through my collection of watering cans that have been prominently displayed all year. I’ve had so much fun styling them for every season — you might remember them overflowing with lavender in the spring and then brimming with fall foliage just a few weeks ago.

For the holidays, I started with a garland of fresh hops, which dried so beautifully and added the perfect natural texture. Then I layered in an assortment of pomegranates in various shapes and sizes along with dried hydrangeas, and a few dried raspberries. It was picture-perfect for Thanksgiving.

A large arrangement of red pomegranates, dried flowers, and rusty watering cans creates festive pomegranate Christmas decor atop a white windowed garden shed in bright sunlight.

For Christmas, all the She Shed needed was a few fresh pine boughs, a scattering of pinecones, and a soft strand of twinkling lights to bring the entire cottage to life. Every Bit of This Collection Was Foraged — simple, natural touches that were hand selected and blend together to create the most magical holiday glow.

A vintage laundry basket and an old wooden chicken roosting box, brimming with pomegranates, make the perfect finishing touches nestled among the garden for the holidays.

A bunch of bright red pomegranates with green leaves rests on the corner of a rustic wooden crate, surrounded by evergreen branches and other foliage.

Inside the She Shed: A Warm Holiday Workspace

Inside, I kept everything warm and inviting — the perfect cozy corner to curl up with a cup of tea and gather a little creative inspiration. This She Shed is where so many of my recent projects come to life, like my Sheet Music Chargers and my Velvet Christmas Ornaments. If you haven’t seen them yet, they’re wonderful holiday crafts to try!

My dahlias are strung along a rope to dry for the winter, and the lights cast a warm glow over the pomegranates and paperwhites.

I have nestled together several of my DIY Moss Christmas Cone Trees, and a vintage scale full of pomegranates which were a perfect fit for my natural decor this year.

Two small topiary trees in pots, one labeled "Indoor Outdoor," are decorated with moss. They sit among scattered red pomegranates, green foliage, a watering can, and a garden rake near a window.

Front Porch: A Warm, Natural Holiday Welcome

The front porch is always a very special signature place to decorate for the holidays — it sets the tone for the entire home and greets guests with a warm welcome before they even step inside. This year’s Pomegranate Christmas décor brings a fresh and natural feel to the blue-and-white porch décor.

A cozy porch decorated for Christmas with a “Merry Christmas” sign, a wooden bench with red and white pillows, a plaid blanket, baskets of apples, a “peace, love, joy” mug, and greenery.
A festive porch with a white door decorated with a wreath of pine, red ornaments, birch bark, and touches of pomegranate Christmas decor. A red "Merry Christmas" doormat, potted topiary, sled, and a basket of red ornaments complete the holiday scene.

I hung my recent DIY book-page-wreath, giving it a festive update by tucking in a few pomegranates and sprigs of greenery. Accented with soft velvet ribbon, it feels simple and elegant, yet full of character. It ties the whole pomegranate holiday theme together beautifully.

Simple Ways to Decorate with Fresh or Faux Pomegranates

There are so many simple and beautiful ways to use fresh or faux pomegranates in your outdoor Christmas décor, and here are a few of my favorites from this year’s porch:

Tuck pomegranates into Vintage Containers

Nestle pomegranates into wire baskets, terracotta pots, or vintage wheelbarrows for a rustic, gathered look. A mix of greenery and long pine needles adds a rich and beautiful texture.

A rustic wooden wheelbarrow holds a wire basket filled with small potted plants, greenery, and red pomegranates, creating charming Pomegranate Christmas decor on a porch with blue siding and a large planter nearby.

Add Them to Evergreen Arrangements

Faux pomegranates look especially realistic in arrangements like my galvanized pitcher. It’s filled with fresh-foraged magnolia and winter greenery.

A rustic metal vase holds large green leaves and red pomegranates, surrounded by pine branches and pomegranates on a wooden table, with a porch and greenery in the background.

Style Them in Seasonal Baskets

A basket brimming with pomegranates sits by the front door, adding the prettiest pop of holiday color. It’s such a simple way to decorate, yet it feels so warm and inviting. And as guests head home, it is a real joy to offer them a few pomegranates to take with them — a sweet little gift from my home.

A woven basket filled with ripe, red pomegranates and green leaves sits on a wooden floor, creating a charming pomegranate Christmas decor scene with a plant pot and rustic accents in the background.

Pair Them with Paperwhites or Winter Bulbs

The bright red fruit contrasts beautifully with delicate white paperwhites. It’s an easy way to blend garden life with holiday décor.

A cluster of paperwhite narcissus bulbs with tall green shoots and small white blooms grows in a metal container. In the background, Pomegranate Christmas decor includes a vase with large leaves, red berries, and a festive pomegranate.

Simple Touches on the Back Porch

Out on the back porch, I kept things simple but still carried through with the Pomegranate Christmas Decor as well. Theme. An old, chipped church window hangs in front of a flocked tree, creating the sweetest layered view of the garden. Beneath it, a vintage green watering can is filled with fresh greenery and an abundance of pomegranates tucked in as if freshly gathered from the orchard. Surrounded by ferns and winter pots, this quiet corner feels like a little garden retreat — the perfect spot to sit, sip something warm, and soak in the season.

A frosted artificial Christmas tree and a green watering can filled with red apples add festive charm to the porch, accented by unique pomegranate Christmas decor. A cushioned bench and a large window reflect the sunny outdoor scene with trees.

My Outdoor Christmas Wrap Up

I hope this inspires you to bring a few pomegranates — fresh or faux — into your own holiday decorating this year. Sometimes the simplest elements from nature can create the most magical moments.
