Wallpaper DIY Placemats

Learn how to transform leftover wallpaper into stylish DIY placemats. A perfect upcycling project to enhance your home decor.

Equipment

  • 1 Pair of Scissors or an Exacto Knife
  • 1 Paint roller or paintbrush
  • 2 Heavy books per placemat
  • 1 Credit card

Materials

  • 1 roll Leftover wallpaper
  • 1 Can Spray glue or wallpaper paste
  • 1 Pencil
  • 1 Ruler

Instructions

  • Prepare Your Work Area
    Lay out materials on a clean, flat surface
  • Measure & Cut Leftover Wallpaper
    Decide placement of pattern on placemat
    Place placemat on back of wallpaper
    Trace around placemat with ½” extra on all sides
    Cut out wallpaper
  • Attach Wallpaper to Placemat or Backing
    Traditional Wallpaper
    Apply wallpaper paste to base
    Place wallpaper on top, smooth from center outward
    Use hands or a card to remove bubbles
    Spray Adhesive
    Spray both placemat and wallpaper back
    Wait 30 seconds, then press and smooth
  • Seal & Protect
    Apply thin layer of Mod Podge with foam brush
    Let dry 15–20 minutes
    Repeat for 2–3 coats
