This year I will be putting up four full-size Christmas trees.

I enjoy creating different themes for my trees or a color scheme.

Decorating for Christmas is one of my favorite things to do. I love creating new ways to make my home feel festive and magical. But sometimes, choosing a decorating style can be a bit of a dilemma. Should I go for a vintage look or keep it traditional? Should I add a bit of glitz or stick to classic holiday colors? Ultimately, mixing a few different styles is the best approach, or at least that is how I approach Christmas decorating. That way, you can create a look that is uniquely your own. And it ensures your home will be decked out in all the Christmas cheer!

Christmas Decorating Ideas for your Home with some Sparkle and Shine

What would Christmas be without twinkle lights, candles, And a little shimmer and shine? I keep it rather simple in the LIving room by using gold and white as my two accent colors. I focus on this beautiful 8′ King noble fir tree from King of Christmas. It is such a beautiful tree that, quite honestly, it needs very little decorating.

I like to start at the top with two very large bows with many streamers flowing down my tree. I have written an entire blog post that is my step by step to decorating a Chrismas Tree. You can see it here.

In addition, you can add a simple banner with wording down the front if you like. You can see that I also love blue and white, so the gold is a nice accent color to this room.

I love how my gold ribbons shine against the mantle’s fresh greens. It feels like Christmas when you walk into a room with these colors! And wait until you see how I put those fresh greens up here.
The point was to keep it simple and minimalist but still have an eye-catching display for people walking through our doorways, which I think we achieved quite nicely.

The Best Traditional Christmas Decorating Ideas

Ever since I was a little girl, the first thing that came to mind when thinking about Christmas was all those magical moments under an extravagant tree with family and friends.

The family room is the heart of our home. It’s where we spend the most time, so it needs something special to make you feel festive and cheerful too! I got a new 9′ King flocked tree from King Of Christmas last year and a small 4′ tree from a yard sale. You all know how I love my thrifted goods.

We wanted to add a bit of a casual feel to these trees, so I chose an old wood crate for the small tree, and My husband and I built this fun box for the large tree out of old barn wood. Don’t you just love the look?

I fell in love with the giant Christmas bells and knew instantly that I would use these in my family room. In addition, I used some of the traditional red and white and lots of plaid in this room.

I also decorated the red and white tree with galvanized houses and lots of bells and pinecones. I made this fun “Merry Christmas” banner draping down the tree’s front. You can see the detailed post on how to make this banner and decorate your tree here.

Fresh Cedar is my favorite for wrapping a banister. Be sure to soak it in cold water for 24 hours. Let it dry and spray with Wilt Pruf. This product helps to keep the moisture in your greens so they last longer.

The Best Natural Christmas Decorating Ideas

There’s nothing like the feeling of creating your own unique decorations for Christmas. Start with fresh greens and branches to create an outline, then embellish with fun accents that will make any decoration look festive and bright.

You can also make your own wrapping paper by stamping cookie cutters on brown craft paper. Embellish your packages with fresh greens and pinecones.

Oranges and tangerines add so much color to your natural Christmas decor; you can do many things with them. You can use a dehydrator and dry the slices for a garland or a wreath. You can use whole tangerines in a vase full of fresh greens. Create a Christmas tree out of tangerines and rosemary or Kale. You can even make the yummiest smelling stovetop potpourri.

I love the smell of potpourri simmering on a cold winter’s day. Something about that mix of citrus, cinnamon, and fresh rosemary creates an inviting home for guests to visit!
